At Croft Junior School, we realise the importance of offering our learners an exciting, engaging and hands-on curriculum, so that children are eager to come to school every day to learn new knowledge and skills. We strive to bring our curriculum alive and make learning relevant and purposeful. We achieve this through the use of carefully chosen educational visits, workshops and topic related costume and role play days. Visitors are also invited into school to further enhance and enrich the curriculum and provide a “wow” factor to learning experiences. Opportunities are also offered through our wide range of extra-curricular activities, which take place throughout the year. Here are some of the activities we offer our learners.

School Choir
Every week our talented staff that play instruments and enjoy singing run a choir that every child will be part of at different times of the year. Approximately once every four weeks a whole year group will have a choir session during the afternoon on a Monday. From these sessions there will be other opportunities for the children to learn various songs and represent the school at different events.
Child who express an interest in the additional choir opportunities and/or children who demonstrate a passion for singing may be invited to a dynamic choir to learn specific songs for various events. Such events include secondary school Open Evenings; festive events at local community groups; and school events.
These opportunities are fluid and dynamic. Because they will be taking place during the school day, they do not need parents to sign up. Children interested in the additional opportunities will need to display consistently positive behaviour and a commitment to completing work.
Over the course of the year, all children that demonstrate consistently positive attitudes and work hard in class will have the opportunity to represent the school where the opportunity arises. Over time, we are aiming for this to include all children.
As such, choir membership will be dynamic and change over the course of the year and the years ahead – children will at some point get the opportunity.
Forest School is a child-centred inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. It is a long-term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. It develops confidence and self-esteem through learner inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting. Forest School has a developmental ethos shared by thousands of trained practitioners around the world, who are constantly developing their learning styles and skills to support new and imaginative learners. Its roots reach back to the open-air culture, friluftsliv, or free air life, seen as a way of life in Scandinavia where Forest School began. It arrived in the UK in 1993 and has grown from strength to strength since then.
