Young Leaders

Croft Junior School belongs to the children – it is their school. Every child attending should have the opportunity to step forward and represent their classmates, peers and friends. Characteristics expected of our Young Leaders are:

Polite and well-mannered.
Organised and committed.
Well-presented in uniform and appearance.
Responsible and trustworthy
A role model for others.
Caring, mature and honest.

Interested children will complete an application form to be considered for one of five ‘Young Leaders’ teams, detailed below. Young Leaders will be shortlisted and then either voted for (School Council) or interviewed.

One child from each class, making a council of 12

A formal group of pupils within a school who are elected by their peers to represent them and their views. The School Council can provide a meaningful way in which pupils can voice their opinions and have their views taken into account in decisions which impact upon them. The School Council will provide leadership and development opportunities for the pupils.  We want our children to be provided with opportunities to participate in school and society. The School Council is an opportunity for our children to learn about democracy, local and global citizenship and accountability.

House Captains need to be a good role model for their peers and be a member of the school who other respect, trust and talk to. A key role is one of responsibility requiring dedication, organisation and the ability to set a positive example to all children throughout the school, embodying the six school values. House Captains need to be a good role model for their peers and be a member of the school who other respect, trust and talk to. A key role is one of responsibility requiring dedication, organisation and the ability to set a positive example to all children throughout the school, embodying the six school values. They will play a key role in promoting team spirit, supporting house events and sports activities. House Captains will show a commitment to creating an inclusive and positive environment for all learners.

Digital Leaders are proactive about exploring how information technology (IT) can help their education and support the needs of peers. A Digital Leader will support IT use and further the development of IT in school. Digital Leaders will share their learnings with others to promote efficient use of IT, as appropriate, as well as promoting online safety.

Librarians will ensure all classmates know how to reserve, log out and log in books. Librarians will take returned books back to the library and re-shelf them. They will periodically check the library to ensure it is fit for purpose. Librarians will recommend quality texts to classmates and share suggested new additions for the library.

The Media Team will use various media to promote, support and serve the other Young Leaders in the school. They will help promote Pupil Voice in various media formats. The Media Team will produce regular podcasts, sharing news, updates and regular features about Croft Junior School. The Media Team will demonstrate the importance of communication in its various forms.
