Year 5 Shine at Whitemoor Lakes
At Croft Junior School the Year 5 children are invited and encouraged to take part in a five day/four night residential visit. By taking part they have a truly profound learning experience. Over the course of a Monday to Friday residential, we see hugely beneficial transformations as the children step outside their comfort zones and discover capabilities they never knew they possessed.
The residential environment creates unique opportunities for personal growth that simply cannot be replicated in the classroom. Whether conquering their fears on the rope climbing course, working collaboratively during water sports activities, or finding their confidence on the dance floor at evening discos, children return home as more resilient, self-assured individuals. Perhaps most significantly, the residential setting fosters exceptional teamwork and problem-solving skills. Away from familiar surroundings, children learn to support one another, communicate effectively, and tackle challenges together. They develop independence whilst simultaneously strengthening their bonds with classmates, often forming friendships that last throughout their time at Croft Junior School and beyond.

Our five-day residential at Whitemoor Lakes this year has been a shining example of this. Throughout the week, the children embraced every opportunity with enthusiasm, positivity and determination. We saw our school values in action each and every day: integrity in making thoughtful choices, kindness in supporting friends, courage in facing fears, loyalty to their teams, resilience when challenges grew tough, and self-belief as they achieved more than they ever thought possible.
We sometimes find we have children who arrive on Monday feeling anxious or homesick, yet by Friday they depart standing taller, speaking more confidently, and radiating a newfound sense of achievement. These are experiences and memories that will stay with them for years to come – shaping not only their time at Croft Junior School, but their futures beyond it.
It has been a joy to see the children flourish over the week – building friendships, strengthening teamwork and creating memories that will last a lifetime. They represented our school wonderfully, and we could not be prouder of the way they embraced every opportunity.
