Our New Curriculum

This week’s Focus on… is all about our new curriculum. To change the curriculum is no small task and certainly not something we would choose to do if it were not necessary. During last academic year we started to discuss the curriculum that had been created at Croft Junior School and put it all together on a suite of documents so that both staff at school and parents could look at the provision and know what is taught, simply, quickly and easily accessible. That exercise quite quickly showed a few gaps in the way the curriculum was put together: although all areas were being delivered, only certain people knew where to look. Creating a consistent set of documents also showed that some subjects did not link as well as we would want them to with clear progression through the years.

It is important to state that we want a curriculum that interests the children, enables valuable learning opportunities and ensures the children learn, remember and reach the standards that they are capable of. There can be no excuses and the quality of provision cannot be compromised for any reason – as such, the change has been made and will be effective from Monday.

The new curriculum has been created using a resource called Kapow (something that was already being used for Design Technology). It provides staff with a clear progression of knowledge and skills, planned activities and opportunities for adaptation, ensuring we are ambitious. As stated, your children deserve the best. This change does mean some ‘topics’ will change. It will require some change in how lessons are delivered and it will be new for most.

An overview of the new curriculum will be added to the website by Monday and a link will be share with all parents. Please do have a look and come along to the various events we will soon be inviting you to. We want you to be part of the offer your children get here at Croft Junior School and enjoy the opportunities with them.
