Enjoying World Book Day

On Thursday 6th March, children and staff at school celebrated World Book Day. It was a very enjoyable day, sharing books, making hats and developing various creative skills. All around the school on Thursday, children and staff were engrossed in making their hats, inspired by various books. The planning, cutting, collaborating and assembling skills were well used and the discussion about various books was a pleasure to hear. At the time, the school was awash with a range of materials being used for their creations and come the end of the day, it was quite an accomplishment to see a tidy school. We hope the children enjoyed the day – they certainly created to a positive ‘buzz’ around school. Thank you to the many children and adults that have been in touch to support the decision to ditch the costumes and put the effort into buying an actual book that can be enjoyed for a long time. One parent commented…

“So much better not having to worry about finding money for costumes. The focus was on books ๐Ÿ“š. The kids loved it. So much thought and effort was put into today and it definitely paid off ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘”.

World Book Day is often a day where children and adults dress up as a character from a book but following a talk by the founder of World Book Day, who explained that is not the point, we got off the costume bandwagon and avoided the unintended anxiety causes for many who do not want to dress up, and avoided the needless cost of a costume. The real point, as explained by the World Book Day founder was the focus… enjoying books.
