Croft Junior School Shines at Sportshall Athletics Event
Fourteen pupils from Croft Junior School delivered an outstanding performance at the Year 3/4 Sportshall Athletics competition on Wednesday 10 December, securing an impressive second-place finish.
The young athletes competed against local primary schools in a series of events designed to showcase speed, strength, and stamina. Despite fierce competition, Croft’s team demonstrated exceptional talent and determination throughout the morning.
The highlight of the day came from Noah, a Croft pupil who achieved the highest vertical jump of the entire morning session with an remarkable leap of 27 centimetres. His achievement drew enthusiastic applause from spectators and fellow competitors alike, exemplifying the high standard of performance maintained by the Croft team.
Park Lane Primary School claimed the top spot in the overall standings, with Croft Junior School finishing as worthy runners-up, ahead of Wembrook Primary School in third place. However, the final positions tell only part of the story, as all fourteen Croft participants thoroughly enjoyed the experience and represented their school with pride.
The Sportshall Athletics format, which takes place indoors, allows young athletes to experience a wide range of athletic disciplines including sprinting, jumping, and throwing events. This variety ensures that pupils with different strengths can contribute to their team’s success whilst developing fundamental movement skills.
Staff accompanying the children reported that the pupils’ behaviour and sportsmanship were exemplary throughout the event, with the team supporting one another enthusiastically and celebrating each other’s achievements.
The strong finish bodes well for Croft Junior School’s continued success in competitive sport, demonstrating that the 360-pupil school’s commitment to physical education and athletic development is bearing fruit. The experience gained will prove invaluable as these young athletes progress through their junior school years.
