Croft Cruise to Commanding Opening Victory
Wednesday 30th September, 2026
What a way to open the season! Croft Junior School kicked off their footballing year in style this week, running out convincing four nil winners against Saint Paul’s Church of England Primary School in a match that will live long in the memory.
From the very first whistle, Croft were on the front foot. This was a brand new squad, with several players lining up alongside one another for the first time, yet you would never have known it. The passing was crisp, the movement was clever and the understanding between the players grew with every touch. It was as if they had been playing together for years.
The breakthrough came early, as Ronnie pounced to fire Croft into the lead and settle any opening nerves. Saint Paul’s battled bravely, but the pressure kept coming and Maisie doubled the advantage with a superbly taken finish that had the touchline on its feet.
After the break, Croft picked up exactly where they left off. Max added a third with real composure before Christian wrapped things up, although he may admit his goal was a little fortunate. A slight mishit took the ball on an unexpected path that deceived the Saint Paul’s goalkeeper and crept over the line. Lucky or not, they all count, and it was celebrated with smiles on faces all round. The defence stood firm whenever Saint Paul’s threatened, ensuring a clean sheet to cap a superb afternoon.
Yet the scoreline only tells part of the story. What stood out most was the spirit in which the game was played. Both teams showed tremendous respect for one another, for the referee and for the game itself. There was encouragement for teammates after every mistake, applause for good play from either side and handshakes all round at the final whistle. Saint Paul’s never stopped trying and deserve enormous credit for their sportsmanship.
For Croft, this was a performance built on teamwork, determination and a fantastic attitude, true to our belief that together we will succeed. If this is the standard for the opening fixture, there are exciting times ahead.
Final score: Croft Junior School 4, Saint Paul’s Church of England Primary School 0
