Croft Courage Shines Through in Cup Semi-Final Thriller

Dramatic penalty shootout sees Croft Junior School through to Schools Cup Final

Tuesday 2 December, 2025

Croft Junior School 1-1 St Nicholas School (Croft win 3-2 on penalties)

In a pulsating semi-final that had everything, Croft Junior School displayed remarkable courage to overcome a physically imposing St Nicholas side and book their place in the Schools Cup 2025 Final.

Playing at home before an enthusiastic crowd, Croft found themselves behind against a St Nicholas team who combined physicality with genuine technical ability. The visitors’ robust approach produced some crunching challenges, but Croft refused to be intimidated, continuing to play attractive, flowing football with excellent movement of the ball.

As the match wore on, it appeared the opposition might prevail. However, embodying this term’s school value of courage, Croft produced a scintillating spell of football that would not have looked out of place in the Premier League. The pressure told when Jack unleashed a perfect strike that kissed the post before nestling in the net, sending the home supporters into raptures.

Both teams battled with unwavering determination through the closing stages, but neither could find a winner in normal time. Penalties would decide this epic encounter.

The shootout began nervously, with both sides missing their opening kicks. Goalkeeper Kane became an unlikely hero, saving St Nicholas’s second penalty with his face in a moment of sheer bravery. After Croft’s third miss sent the contest into sudden death, Kane produced another crucial save before Jack, already the hero in normal time, stepped up with ice in his veins to seal a memorable 3-2 victory.

Croft now face Michael Drayton in the final, carrying forward the courage and quality that saw them through this remarkable semi-final.
