Children Sing at Young Voices

We are proud to offer many experiences for our children. Whether we are hosting experts on interesting topics or going on trips on the minibus, we understand how much the children can gain from interacting first-hand with their learning. One mainstay of our school calendar is Young Voices, the largest children’s choir concert in the world.

Founded in 1992, Young Voices offers thousands of children across the country the opportunity to join together and benefit from the shared experience of communal singing. This year’s concerts have an extra special flair as Young Voices celebrates the thirtieth anniversary of its first concerts in 1997. Over the past three decades, over 2.5 million young people have been part of the Young Voices choir, with many returning as guest vocalists in recent years.

At the start of the academic year, our school choir began the process of rehearsing and refining twelve songs from a range of genres, including sea shanties, disco and musical theatre. Not only did the children need to know the songs, but they also had to learn several dances and a selection of Makaton signs to accompany the performance.

On Monday afternoon, our school joined hundreds of other schools from across our region and beyond to make the final preparations before showtime. The choir was made up of 5,755 children in total, and to hear that many young people singing about the power within themselves, how there’s no such thing as normal, and how they like being original is truly inspiring. Their behaviour was impeccable, representing our school fantastically well. They sang beautifully and confidently, with one child describing it as “the most magical day ever”.
